Mission Statement
Over 100,000 Byzantine seals are housed in a wide array of collections, many of which are only partially published or presented across scattered books, articles or platforms. For the first time, this Portal offers a unified entry point, allowing these dispersed holdings to be comprehensively searched—and unlocking new avenues for research.
The lack of publicly accessible information on seals has long been a major gap in Byzantine sigillography. This initiative responds to that need by offering a user-friendly and pragmatic platform for sharing data, with minimal requirements for participation.
Every seal description remains clearly credited to its respective contributor, who retains full responsibility for the content.
With the SigiDoc Portal, you can search a metacorpus comprising potentially tens of thousands of seals from various collections—all in a single click.
